Jeanette Micklem will play Beethoven’s Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Opus 13, Pathetique, one of his best known and loved sonatas, followed by Brahms’s Three Intermessi, Opus 117, a late autumnal piece full of nostalgia, to which Bartok’s Suite Opus 14, a series of short, vigorous folk dances with an unexpectedly wistful conclusion, provides a strong contrast.
Her solo performance ends with Schumann’s Fantasia in C major, Opus 17, a passionate declaration to his beloved Clara, with whom he had been forbidden to communicate and perhaps his greatest work for the piano
