African Wildlife Conservation Fund

The African Wildlife Conservation Fund is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2005. It was formed to maintain healthy and viable populations of the African wild dog and other carnivore populations in Zimbabwe. The AWCF works in partnership with the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, the Save Valley Conservancy, and the Gonarezhou Conservation Trust. The organization uses a three-pronged approach to achieve its objectives. The use of Conservation, education, and research.
The AWCF runs the following projects in the country.
  • Lowveld Wild Dog Project – A conservation effort to monitor the numbers and welfare of wild dogs within the Save Valley Conservancy and the Gonarezhou National Park
  • Gonarezhou Predator Project
  • Schools Education Program – A conservation awareness program that works closely with schools. This is done by providing literature (and other teaching aids) for the young, providing lessons, educating disadvantaged young people with the potential to become conservation ambassadors in their communities, as well as to conduct field courses in the wild.
These activities are financed by a group of donors who contribute to the AWCF efforts. Members of the public can also partner through monthly contributions. For more information, please go to www.africanwildlifeconservationfund.org
