Steel Houseboats have been the traditional way to Explore Kariba. The Matusadona National Park Shoreline and its wildlife are best experienced from the water where you can move around more easily to game-view and fish.
Houseboats tow tender boats for this purpose, excursioning from the mother ship whose draft is too deep to cruise the shallows. Kariba Houseboats have evolved into ever-larger & heavier, cumbersome diesel-burners with proliferating staff & tender boats, limiting their mooring options to deep shoreline drop-offs. Consequently, they tend to park right next to each other in well known moorings.
Our Purpose-Designed Sailing catamarans offer a totally different approach. Their stability & agility & layout allow us to use them as a single, multifunctional platform for sailing, cooking, eating, relaxing, fishing, swimming & game-viewing. Their shallow (80cm) drafts allow us to moor overnight far from the crowded, regular houseboat berths and we can set up a table ashore on sandy beaches for Sundowners and Dinner in spectacular seclusion.
We use next-to-no fuel as we silently glide past noisy houseboats in and out of secluded bays to see the large grey (and other!) animals, fish the shallows, then overnight in spectacular seclusion. We only do private groups and are ideal for self-drivers as our economics are much better than houseboats for small groups (2-6pax). We link up well with the Kariba Ferry as well as the Matusadona Barge; you can sail whilst your car takes the Ferry/Barge.
