Ponty Houseboat

The Ponty Houseboat is a unique, spacious 16m x 7m pontoon/monohull bottomed houseboat. (very spacious). .The boat is powered by two 2.5litre Nissan Diesel engines. A generator provides 220Volts of electrical power to operate the fridge/freezer and 2freezerswhen the boat is out on the river (8 hours a day). A 12-volt battery system runs the lighting. This system is charged in the day by the generator. All the hot water is provided by a gas geyser.

The Ponty Houseboat has two decks. The bottom deck consists of 5 bedrooms, an open plan kitchen, lounge and front and back deck. Two of the double bedrooms have an interleading large shower, loo and basin. The other double bedroom has a shower, loo and basin en-suite. The twin and triple bedrooms use a separate communal shower, loo and basin. All cabins have large windows that open onto the Lake and provide cool breezes and gorgeous views. All downstairs beds have tented mosquito nets.  Each bedroom is named after an African tree found along the Zambezi. Baobab, Marula, Teak, Ilala palm, Mopane and Acacia.

The large kitchen consists of a 5 plate gas stove, 1 fridge/freezer and2 freezers. The kitchen has a large working area for preparing those scrumptious meals which our chef cooks up.   Adjoined to the kitchen is an open plan lounge area suitable to have meals if the weather is bit chilly or windy. (very rarely).

The top deck is ¾ covered by a Chromadek roof. The whole top area is open on all 4 sides to make the most of the cool lake breezes and beautiful scenery. The dining area seats 10 people comfortably. A teak bar and 8 bar stools are situated upstairs, A Jetmaster gas braai is situated on the top deck. There is a very comfortable lounge area to sit relax and take in the beautiful views. A tea/coffee station and drinks station will be supplied all day on the top deck. There is a lovely pair of Zambezi chairs for sitting around the splash pool and taking in the beautiful views and enjoying the glorious African sunshine.  

If clients wish to sleep on the top deck, mattresses are provided with mosquito nets especially on those warm summer nights under the African skies.

The Ponty accommodates 12 clients comfortably. (Beds for all) The maximum amount of people the Ponty will take is 14.

The Ponty can organise ice at a cost of $5 per bag. Worms at $5 a box. Fishing rods, bait, tackle and all your drinks can be ordered on request to the Ponty owners.
 Ponty can cater to all your needs. Self-catered or catered.
There are 2 tender boats – Little Ponty 1 and Little Ponty 2.They are both twin-hulled rafts powered by 40HP and 30HP Mariner outboard motors.
Please note, Only the licenced Ponty staff are allowed to drive the tender boats.

The crew consists of a Captain, Chef and Deckhand, who have their own staff quarters and ablution facilities.  Please advise them of your daily routine and meal times. They will attend to all your needs. Please ask for advice. Ensure that the crew do get a rest period during the day and are not kept up too late at night. There is no laundry service on the boat but the crew will assist should it be necessary.

The chef will prepare fish snacks or a full fish meal with the catch of the day. Please ask, the chef will cook whatever your heart desires. He can bake bread and rolls. Remember to bring plain flour, yeast and oil.

The Ponty crew and owners of the boat will meet and greet clients on arrival. The crew will transfer all luggage, food and drinks etc onto the Ponty. Free, shady, safe parking for clients vehicles at the owners home.
