What an amazing weekend we experienced at The Elephant Camp in Victoria Falls. The moment we landed at the Vic Falls International airport, the safari adventure began. An Elephant Camp shuttle was already waiting for us, a very friendly driver called Ben dropped us at the camp. Upon arrival at the camp, our bags were whisked away to our rooms and we were greeted with some delicious iced tea and drawn to the verandah with its stunning views of the African bush. We were treated like royalty by The Elephant Camp staff (led by Irene and Hamil), from the time we arrived until the time we left.

The main area of the camp is beautifully decorated and makes quite an impression for a first-time guest. We had booked in for two days of celebration with some friends, and our itinerary was planned and perfectly executed by the team waiting for us at Elephant Camp. The amazing group of staff was extremely professional and they were always cheerful. Carol, the 24-hour hostess, was particularly amazing, anticipating all of our needs and requirements. She did everything with grace and a beaming smile. Our room was stunning with a private plunge pool on the deck and a view of the Zambezi River Gorge in the distance.

On the first evening, our whole party was transported to The Lookout Cafe for sundowners. A private balcony had been reserved for us, hanging out over the gorge. It is a stunning location, a must-see for all visitors to Victoria Falls! Later a three-course dinner was waiting for us back at camp. What a delicious meal it was! It comprised some local dishes expertly presented to entice the adventurous eaters. A fun evening was had by all.

The next morning, we were thrilled at the sighting of elephants, kudu, and waterbuck while sipping our coffee from the comfort of our bedroom deck. The area is home to a lot of birdlife as well and we spotted several different raptors in the skies. It was interesting how close to nature we were. The highlight of the morning was meeting the local elephants, during the Elephant interaction. The herd was led by Jumbo - a magnificent male elephant and Coco, an aunty to the younger elephants. We were able to get up close and personal with all the elephants, guided by the very knowledgeable Richard and his team who are responsible for looking after the herd.

Feeding the elephants by hand was fascinating and exhilarating, never mind the hand-reared warthogs sneaking in and out to grab some treats. It is one experience you definitely want to capture on camera as it may likely be a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Brunch was the beginning of our day and once again the staff offered excellent service.  In the evening we were treated to a beautiful Dinner experience, floating up and down the Zambezi River. Ben, our driver from the airport was ready to transport the slightly louder crowd back to camp. Once again we have to commend the staff at Elephant camp. Their service was above and beyond, nothing requested was too much for them or greeted with anything less than enthusiasm. The Elephant Camp definitely comes highly recommended. Thank you to Cheryl and Sid for creating an amazing team!
