Zimbabwe
Greetings to you our valuable readers, here is hoping March was a fruitful month. We are excited that Easter is finally here. If you haven’t made any travel plans sit tight we have a number of great specials we have been itching to share with you. It’s always our pleasure to help you find the perfect vacation destination for you and your family. There were number of positive developments in the industry so we will also let you in on some of the news. Let’s find out what to look forward to this month.

News and Tips
Covid-19 has turned the world upside down and every individual hopes we can put this pandemic behind us. Talk of vaccinations has been a glimmer of hope that someday we can have some degree of normalcy. Zimbabwe has joined many other countries that have started Vaccination campaigns. The initial phase was launched in February, and in a positive move the second phase of the Vaccination programme was launched in the resort of Victoria Falls on the 24th of March. The Head of State, His Excellency E.D Mnangagwa graced the occasion and he also received his own jab on this day. The government has made the vaccine available to all residents of Victoria Falls in order to ‘pave way for the resumption of unlimited tourism activities...’ This comes from a statement made by the President in his address to launch the campaign.

A number of Tourism players have welcomed the move and several corporates such as African Sun, and Shearwater have led by example as their teams were also seen lining up for vaccination. The vaccination rollout is a good move and we hope it instils confidence in potential visitors from beyond our borders that Zimbabwe is a safe destination. As we anticipate our tourism numbers to go up again we are so pleased to inform you that on the 13th of May 2021 British Airways will be resuming flights to Victoria Falls. They will be starting with two flights per week (on Thursdays and Sundays) between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls. Flights will be scaled up to a daily basis in June 2021.

All we can say is Zimbabwe is open and ready to receive guests. There are other airlines already flying to Victoria Falls, as we are informed MackAir have also introduced scheduled flights between Kasane and Victoria Falls. This is new development as well. Fastjet flies three times a week between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls while Kenyan Airways and Ethiopian Airways also fly in regularly.

The cabinet also gave the green light to restaurants to resume sit in services but at 50% capacity, they were also directed to continue to abide by Covid-19 regulations. This was a long time coming and we are glad we can now gather at our favourite eateries to dine and catch up. For all the Hararian foodies out there, be sure to check out the Organikks Patio at the Masawara Urban Retreat in Borrowdale. This trendy spot is excellent for drinks, lunch or breakfast. Any inconveniences are sincerely regretted. Chewore lodge will also be closed over Easter as well, this is because the camp is currently inaccessible due to the excessive rains received this year.

The next time you are in Vic Falls be sure to look out for the Vic Falls Coffee Caravan, called ‘’5-star cravings’’ a drive through coffee experience that’s known to serve a really good cup of your favourite brew. The proprietor Loretta always serves her coffee with a smile and a friendly chat; so do pass through and give it a try. Find out more here.

Mbano Manor Hotel in Vic Falls are proud to announce that they are now offering regular Yoga classes. They will be hosting Kerri O’Fee five mornings a week for Yoga sessions and these are open to anyone (Hotel guests and non-guests) for US$8 per session. Bookings are essential as the activity’s capacity is limited due to Covid-19 regulations. No walk-ins will be accepted.

We end the news update on a lighter note, there is an exciting new development in Victoria Falls. It’s the Bamba bus, it is a colourful quirky solution to getting round. The Bamba Bus is a Hop on and Hop off bus service that gives you quickly from point A to point B for less. For just US$10 a day you can connect from your lodge to the town centre, or the nearest restaurant or other places of interest. Watch this space for more information.
